Walgreens
About Walgreen Co. is the second-largest pharmacy chain in the United States, headquartered on a multi-building campus along Wilmot Road in Deerfield, Illinois. Founded in 1901 in Chicago by Charles R. Walgreen Sr., the pharmacy chain operated for over 120 years as a publicly traded company before Sycamore Partners completed its acquisition of Walgreens Boots Alliance on August 28, 2025 for approximately $10 billion in equity value. Sycamore immediately restructured WBA into five independent entities — Walgreens, The Boots Group, Shields Health Solutions, CareCentrix, and VillageMD — with Mike Motz taking the helm as CEO of the standalone Walgreens pharmacy business. The company confirmed that Deerfield remains its sole and permanent corporate headquarters after closing its Chicago Old Post Office
