About

Vrbo (pronounced “VUR-boh”) is an online vacation rental marketplace and wholly owned subsidiary of Expedia Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE), headquartered at 11920 Alterra Parkway, Austin, Texas 78758 — a 16-story office tower in The Domain, North Austin’s premier mixed-use tech and retail district, opened in 2019. Founded in 1995 in Austin, Texas as “Vacation Rentals by Owner,” Vrbo was one of the first platforms to connect homeowners directly with vacationers, predating Airbnb by over a decade. Expedia Group acquired Vrbo (formerly HomeAway) in 2015 for $3.9 billion, and rebranded it from HomeAway to Vrbo in 2019.

Vrbo is now integrated into Expedia Group’s One Key loyalty program, launched in 2023, which links rewards across Vrbo, Expedia, and Hotels.com. Vrbo updated its One Key earn rates in May 2025 — with rates now tied to membership tiers. Expedia Group carried out three rounds of layoffs (2024–2026) that affected Vrbo-linked teams: approximately 1,500 roles in February 2024, 495 roles (3% of workforce) in April 2025 primarily in product and technology, and 162 additional roles in January–April 2026.

  2. Invoke the Book with Confidence Guarantee — for fraudulent listings or properties that don’t match their description, Vrbo’s guarantee covers rebooking costs and refunds. Document all evidence before calling.
  3. Send a certified letter to Austin HQ — write to Vrbo, Attn: Customer Relations, 11920 Alterra Parkway, Austin, TX 78758. Include your booking confirmation number, issue with dates, all prior contact references, and resolution requested.
  4. File with the BBB (Austin, TX chapter — Vrbo is not BBB Accredited).

  6. File with the Texas AG at texasattorneygeneral.gov or 1-800-621-0508 for consumer protection violations.
  7. File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint for payment, billing, or financial service disputes involving Vrbo transactions.
  8. Dispute the charge with your credit card under FCBA for unauthorized charges or properties that were not as advertised — credit card chargebacks are one of the most effective tools for unresolved Vrbo disputes.
