About

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) is the largest telecommunications company in the United States and one of the largest in the world, with its global corporate headquarters at 208 S. Akard Street (Whitacre Tower), Dallas, Texas 75202 — Downtown Dallas — where AT&T has been headquartered since June 2008. In January 2026, AT&T CEO John Stankey officially announced that AT&T will relocate its global headquarters from Downtown Dallas to a new 54-acre corporate campus at 5400 Legacy Drive, Plano, Texas — in proximity to Plano’s Legacy West district — within the next three years. The move is designed to consolidate AT&T’s three largest DFW facilities (Central Dallas, Plano, and Irving) into a single integrated campus.

AT&T traces its corporate lineage through Southwestern Bell Corporation (rebranded as SBC Communications in 1995), which acquired the original AT&T Corp. in 2005 and took the AT&T name — making it one of the most complex corporate histories in American business. The company was headquartered in St. Louis until 1992, then San Antonio until 2008, before moving to Dallas. AT&T is a Fortune 10 company and a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, with $120B+ in annual revenue, 150,000+ employees, and operations across wireline, wireless (AT&T Mobility), broadband, and business services.

CEO John Stankey — who has led AT&T since 2020 — has presided over major strategic changes including the spin-off of WarnerMedia (now Warner Bros. Discovery) in 2022, refocusing AT&T on its core telecom businesses.

About Whitacre Tower and the move to Plano: AT&T’s current Dallas headquarters — Whitacre Tower at 208 S. Akard Street — is part of the AT&T Discovery District, a reimagined urban campus that AT&T unveiled in 2021 covering a full city block in Downtown Dallas, featuring restaurants, event spaces, a digital art gallery, and the iconic “Encounter” video projection installation. The building was renamed in honor of Ed Whitacre Jr., the legendary AT&T/SBC chairman who engineered the SBC acquisition of AT&T Corp. and BellSouth to create the modern AT&T. In January 2026, AT&T announced the move to a new 54-acre campus in Plano’s Legacy district — a decision driven by the need to consolidate DFW facilities, reduce real estate costs, and create a purpose-built innovation campus. The Plano campus at 5400 Legacy Drive will be AT&T’s fourth distinct headquarters city (St. Louis → San Antonio → Dallas → Plano), reflecting the company’s evolving corporate identity over 40 years.
