About

Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: HTZ) is an American car rental and mobility company headquartered at 8501 Williams Road, Estero, Florida 33928 — a sprawling corporate campus in Southwest Florida near Fort Myers and Naples, completed in 2015 after the company relocated from Park Ridge, New Jersey. Through its wholly owned operating subsidiary, The Hertz Corporation, Hertz operates three car rental brands: Hertz (premium), Dollar (mid-tier), and Thrifty (value). Together these brands serve approximately 24 million annual rentals from around 11,000 corporate and franchisee locations across 160+ countries. Founded in 1918 by Walter L. Jacobs in Chicago — making it the world’s oldest car rental company — Hertz pioneered the modern car rental industry and remains one of its most globally recognized brands. Hertz is currently executing a major business turnaround. Following its 2020 bankruptcy filing (triggered by COVID-19 and a disastrous EV fleet overexpansion under prior leadership), Hertz re-listed on NASDAQ in 2021 under new ownership. CEO Gil West — who joined in April 2024 — launched the “Back-to-Basics” strategy, focused on fleet right-sizing, revenue per unit improvement, cost discipline, and customer experience recovery. For full-year 2025, Hertz generated $8.5 billion in revenue and achieved a $2 billion year-over-year improvement in profitability — its strongest YoY revenue performance since Q1 2024. Q3 2025 marked Hertz’s first positive earnings per share in two years, with fleet utilization hitting a record 84%.

Critical context: Two entities share the Estero headquarters. Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: HTZ) is the publicly traded parent holding company. The Hertz Corporation is the wholly owned operating subsidiary that actually runs all rental operations, holds the brand licenses, and is the legal counterparty in rental agreements. For most consumer and legal purposes — including dispute resolution, rental agreements, and litigation — The Hertz Corporation is the correct named entity.

Hertz’s Estero campus — completed in 2015 — replaced the company’s long-standing Park Ridge, New Jersey headquarters, which Hertz had occupied since 1988. The relocation to Southwest Florida was driven by proximity to major tourism and travel markets (Orlando, Miami), improved talent access, and state incentive packages arranged with Florida Governor Rick Scott. The campus serves as the global operational hub for the Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty brands, housing executive leadership, global strategy, finance, marketing, IT, and fleet management functions.

How to Escalate a Complaint

Call 1-800-654-4173 first

Document the date, rep name, and rental agreement number. For billing disputes, damage claim disagreements, or toll fee complaints, request a supervisor on the first call

Request the Damage Recovery Unit (DRU) for damage disputes

If billed for damage you did not cause, specifically ask to be transferred to the DRU. Provide all timestamped pick-up and return photos. If your credit card includes rental car collision coverage, also notify your card issuer simultaneously.

Submit a formal complaint through hertz.com

Visit hertz.com/rentacar/navigation/help/helpLanding.jsp and submit a written complaint tied to your rental agreement number. Written submissions create a documented record for further escalation.

Dispute the charge with your credit card issuer

For unauthorized or disputed rental charges, file a chargeback with your card issuer directly — especially effective for damage billing disputes, unauthorized toll charges, and post-rental fee surprises.

Executive Leadership

Gil West — CEO, Hertz Global Holdings & The Hertz Corporation (since April 1, 2024)

West joined Hertz as CEO in April 2024, succeeding Stephen Scherr. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer of Delta Air Lines and as COO of General Motors’ Cruise autonomous vehicle subsidiary. He inherited a company still recovering from its 2020 bankruptcy and a costly EV overexpansion under prior leadership that generated $2.9 billion in vehicle depreciation losses. His “Back-to-Basics” strategy — centered on fleet right-sizing, per-unit revenue recovery, direct operating expense discipline, and customer experience improvement — delivered a $2 billion profitability improvement in FY2025 and Hertz’s first positive quarterly EPS in two years in Q3 2025. He has also drawn high-profile investor interest: in April 2025, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman (Pershing Square) disclosed a significant stake in Hertz, calling it an attractive turnaround opportunity, and West publicly welcomed the investment.

Scott Harrelson — Chief Financial Officer

Harrelson serves as CFO of both Hertz Global Holdings and The Hertz Corporation, overseeing financial reporting, fleet financing, capital structure, and investor relations. He has been a central architect of the fleet deleveraging and cost reduction program underlying the “Back-to-Basics” strategy. In May 2025, under his stewardship, Hertz extended $1.7 billion of its revolving credit facility maturities to June 2028, providing critical financial stability during the turnaround period. He is a regular presence on Hertz’s quarterly earnings calls and investor presentations
