About
ETRADE from Morgan Stanley is a pioneer in online brokerage and a wholly owned subsidiary of Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS), headquartered at 671 N. Glebe Road, Arlington, Virginia 22203. Founded in 1982 by William A. Porter and Bernard A. Newcomb in Palo Alto, California as TradePlus, ETRADE launched in 1992 as the first platform to offer electronic trading to individual investors, executing the first-ever electronic trade by an individual retail investor via CompuServe. Morgan Stanley acquired E*TRADE in October 2020 for approximately $13 billion, integrating it as one of three core channels in Morgan Stanley Wealth Management — alongside advisor-led and workplace investing.
Today ETRADE serves millions of self-directed retail investors and traders with its flagship Power ETRADE** web platform (ranked #1 Web Trading Platform, StockBrokers.com 2025 Awards) and its Power ETRADE Pro desktop platform — launched July 2025 for active traders requiring advanced customization. Morgan Stanley also announced in September 2025 that E*TRADE will offer cryptocurrency trading (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana)cryptocurrency trading (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana) in the first half of 2026, through a partnership with digital asset infrastructure provider Zerohash.
